National Police Chief Anders Thornberg was informed that Mats Löfving was suicidal in the weeks before the death, reports Dagens Nyheter.
– We have handled this whole issue according to the conditions that have existed, it has been incredibly difficult, Thornberg himself tells the newspaper.
It was on February 22 that the investigator Runar Viksten held a press conference about the actions of the police authorities regarding the case of Mats Löfving.
At the press conference, Viksten singled out Löfving as stubborn in several decisions and recommended Thornberg to fire Löfving.
Just hours later, Löfving was found dead.
After that, the Ombudsman for Justice, JO, received a total of nine notifications about the press conference. JO has now closed all cases, according to SVT Nyheter.

Now reporting Today’s news that Thornberg was informed of Löfving’s condition a week before his death. According to a report from the Police Association, Löfving felt very bad, was depressed and suicidal.
When DN asks Thornberg for a comment about the information that reached him, he replies that the police have done what they could.
– It has been an incredibly difficult process, all of this. On the one hand, we must treat it as a law-enforcement authority and on the other hand, we must take care of all aspects of the work environment as well. There have been a variety of investigations and it has been tried in court. We have submitted an investigation to the Work Environment Agency and we have done what we could according to the current regulations.
