A giant statue was unveiled in Turkmenistan.

One of the tallest statues in the world was unveiled this week in Turkmenistan, located in Central Asia.

The bronze statue represents the country’s national poet Magtymguly Pyragin and it is more than 80 meters high. The artwork is located near Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan.

The height of the Turkmen statue can be compared to, for example, the Hamina flagpole. The statue representing Pyragin is about 20 meters shorter than Finland’s tallest flagpole.

Money gets you giant statues

Tiny Turkmenistan has become prosperous thanks to its gas and oil resources.

In recent years, the country has erected several monuments, buildings and statues to its national heroes.

For example, in 2020 a Central Asian dog got my own a six-meter golden statue. The breed was bred in Turkmenistan.

President Serdar Berdymukhamedov arrived at the opening ceremony of the statue of the national poet on Friday.

Pyragyn, in whose honor the monument was erected, was born more than 300 years ago.

The poet is considered one of the most important characters in Turkmen literature.

Twenty-four smaller bronze statues depicting foreign writers are built around the Pyragy statue. Among the little ones is, for example William Shakespeare, Honore de Balzac and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

Giant statues are rare in the world

There are about 50 statues over 50 meters high representing people in the world.

Turkmenistan’s new monument is twice as tall as the Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and almost 20 meters taller than the Motherland monument in Kyiv.

However, the statue in Turkmenistan is not as tall as the Statue of Liberty with its pedestal in New York.

The tallest statue in the world is located in Gujarat, India. It is the independence hero of India Sardar Patel a performing monument that is 182 meters high.

Finland’s tallest steel statue, a 10-meter-tall soldier in Helsinki’s Kasarmitori, was completed in 2017.
