The National Assembly divided on the question of maintaining order

During the 10th day of mobilization against the pension reform in France, Tuesday, March 28, clashes punctuated the rallies. These excesses, down from previous days (201 arrests, 175 police and gendarmes injured), were the subject of discussions in the afternoon at the National Assembly, during questions to the government. The subject of maintaining order in the demonstrations in recent days divides the deputies.

In the majority and on the benches of the right, support for the police is unanimous. The boss of the Republicans, Éric Ciotti, accused the far left: ” Militants whose sole purpose is to loot, burn, kill cops. Without them, the Republic would not hold. »

All the deputies, except the Insoumis, stood up to pay tribute to the hundreds of gendarmes and police officers injured since January. The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, announced sanctions against the organizers of the demonstrations against the mega-basins of Sainte-Soline during the weekend of March 25-26: So I decided to initiate the dissolution of the Earth Uprisings. »

But on the left, we point out the dozens of examples of police violence in recent weeks. Jean-François Coulomme, of La France insoumise, said: “ A police who ride a motorbike on a demonstrator on the ground, who bludgeon the skulls, who gauze a deputy in a sling at point-blank range, who shoot a mother and destroy her hand, who shoot a trade unionist and gouge out his eye … The aggressor is not the weapon but the one who activates it. »

Gérald Darmanin was quick to reply: ” What happened on the left that we no longer respect the uniform of the Republic? What happened to the left to hate the police? »

Since the end of January, the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), the “police of the police”, has opened at least 17 investigations against the police.
