With her last remaining strength, Frida Karlsson crossed the finish line in Val di Fiemme – as the first Swedish Tour winner since 2008.
But it wasn’t what caught the eye, it was the way the 23-year-old Swede collapsed right after the finish line. Seemingly helpless, Karlsson collapsed, whereupon medical staff quickly treated the Swede, and then carried her away on a stretcher.
A moment later, fortunately, reassuring news came from the Swedish ski management that Karlsson had recovered and was warming up with blueberry soup.
However, the dramatic finish meant that Karlsson could not participate in the award ceremony, but she can still rejoice at the overall win in the coveted championship, which is now in Swedish ownership for the first time since Charlotta Kalla took home the victory in 2008.
