The latest Dragon Ball movie is called Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. The creator of the manga, Akira Toriyama, revealed where the cumbersome name came from before his death.
Why does the movie have such a strange name? When pronouncing and reading the title, it is noticeable that the word “Super” appears twice in a row. In the weeks before the Japanese cinema release, the series creator revealed some details about the story, the characters and also the cumbersome title.
The reason for the tongue twister is once again his memory:
By the way, the subtitle is “Super Hero”. I totally forgot that the main title of the movie is “Dragon Ball Super”. That’s why there are two “Super”s in the title. I think everyone thought I did it on purpose because no one pointed it out to me. So it’s my fault that the “Super” is repeated.

So Toriyama had simply forgotten that the name of the anime was included in the title. When the mangaka noticed the mistake, it was probably too late to change the title again.

The creator of Dragon Ball was a forgetful man
Is Toriyama really that forgetful? Over the course of his career, Toriyama lost track of many details about the Dragon Ball manga. With his career with Dragon Ball spanning almost 40 years, it is understandable that some things can get forgotten. The creator of Dragon Ball passed away in March 2024.
For example, Toriyama forgot several characters over time. Lunch stopped appearing at some point, so Toriyama wrote her own ending. The author even forgot an entire species. At some point the beastmen disappeared, even though they were an integral part of the world.
What is Super Hero about? The film is the sequel to Dragon Ball Super: Broly and the last animated film directed by Akira Toriyama. Son Gohan and Piccolo play the main roles in the film.
The two Z warriors have to deal with the Red Ribbon Army, which wants to regroup. Both of them grow beyond their limits. Son Gohan develops Beast Mode, his currently strongest form.
