– I can only see one alternative really: That you chop up Aluett, if people don’t come and grab it and see to it that the boat is renovated, says Jonas Lungquist, a former member of the association.
The 13th-century replica Aluett was previously part of the Naval Museum in Karlskrona, but is now in Kalmar, where it sunk last in 2019 – and was hoisted up in notable ways.
It is the association Aluett that owns the boat, and they are now appealing for help with both time and money to be able to repair and save the boat.
Located in a restricted area
Today the boat is in a cordoned off area in Kalmar harbor and the newly appointed chairman, Rickard Wingård, who lives in Karlstad, has not yet seen it.
– We have very few people involved in Kalmar, so it is very unclear whether the boat will remain there. We have a board decision that she actually said move to the west coast, he says.
“Seeing only one option”
But it is alternatives that arouse reactions from those who have previously committed themselves to Aluett.
– We really thought she belonged here because this is where the original was found, says Emma Engdahl, who has previously been chairman of the association.
