The murder of the 21-year-old who was shot dead inside the Sätra center in southern Stockholm last night was captured by surveillance cameras, according to information given to TV4 Nyheterna.
The shooter opened fire among several other mall visitors – and shots went straight into a store.
– We are grateful that no one else was hit, says Towe Hägg at the police.
The public and visitors to the mall had to flee and take cover in shops when several shots were fired shortly after 7pm on Monday.
A man was hit and died of his injuries. According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, the person who was shot dead was 21 years old and had previously been with the police.
The task force struck
The Stockholm police launched a major murder operation and after a few hours, together with the task force, were able to arrest four people suspected of aiding and abetting the crime.
– Two are under 18 and two are over 18, men and boys. The police were quickly on the scene and did a very good investigative job in the initial stage, which allowed them to arrest these four relatively quickly, says prosecutor Sara Friedman.
The suspected accomplices were arrested on Friday – and the search for the killer has turned to internal intelligence.
– Based on the information in the case, we are working with the theory that it is a gang-related murder. I can’t go into it more, but it is based on information that has emerged in the case and the people who are involved, says Sara Friedman.
According to information given to TV4 Nyheterna, homicide investigators are looking into a possible connection to another recent shooting outside Stockholm.
– We are working intensively to map what has happened and collect as much information as possible, says Friedman.
Prosecutor: Very seriously
According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, there should be surveillance footage showing the fatal shooting. The crime is described by TV4 Nyheternas’s sources as reckless, where shots hit a shop, among other things.
– It is very serious that you shoot in this way and it has been in the middle of a center where there have been other people, says Friedman.
Stockholm police spokesperson Towe Hägg says:
– The crime scene is indoors and there were many witnesses and there were many at the scene. We are grateful that no one else was hit, then it is sad what happens.
The police are appealing for tips and urge anyone who knows anything or has made observations to get in touch.
– There will also be a certain amount of work together with the district council regarding the safety-creating work, says Towe Hägg.
