Netflix is already launching one of the most exciting new crime series with a casting coup: The Residence shows an entertaining murder investigation in the White House (i.e. the eponymous residence) and, after the tragic loss of its leading actor, has now found a worthy replacement: Breaking Bad’s Gus Fring actor Giancarlo Esposito.

Netflix’s hit series creator sends Breaking Bad star to the White House

Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes has already produced a variety of series hits in her long TV career with her production company Shondaland. In 2017 she signed a deal with Netflix and has since given the streaming service the three hits Bridgerton, Inventing Anna and Queen Charlotte. Her latest stroke of genius is now set to be the murder mystery series The Residence.

After production on the new Netflix series had to pause during the Hollywood strike and after the loss of a cast member, the Hollywood Reporter now reports that filming is continuing. Additionally, none other than Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandalorian) has joined the cast. The second leading role alongside Esposito is played by Netflix fan favorite Uzo Aduba from Orange Is the New Black.
