The risk of local power outages in southern Sweden increases as the nuclear power plant in Oskarshamn closes and at the same time colder weather is expected. In Staffanstorp in Skåne, the municipality is preparing for possible shutdowns of the electricity. There, all parents with children in school or preschool have received a letter with instructions that the children should bring a blanket and a flashlight with them.
– I thought, now it’s a crisis, with great respect for the situation in the world with many people who are much more affected than we are, says the parent, Emma Trygg.
In the letter from Staffanstorp municipality, it is described how it could be for the children in the preschool and the school if the electricity is disconnected. Lighting and heat disappear. Only cold water will be available and no hot food. The school will use heat candles and parents are asked to send blankets and flashlights to the children.
– We think it is important that you go out and warn before you end up with such critical information, says the municipality’s head of education, Krister Åkesson.
