The municipality of Utrecht saves a million by doing less

In some places in the city, bridges, jetties and decking are now cleaned less often. Everything made of wood now gets a service every two years, instead of once a year. And for steel and concrete structures, the cleaning crew now visits every five years, instead of every three years. If it poses a danger, for example slippery conditions due to algae growth, the municipality will come and clean more often. But in all other cases it is fine, the council believes. It may just look a bit more “dirty” and “cluttered”.
