The municipality cuts down on meals for the elderly

Takes away dinner on weekdays – and lunch on the weekend • Arne’s anger towards the municipality

As of October 1, dinner will no longer be served at senior residences at Ängsgården, Lingongården and Milan in Ludvika. Now the restaurant service will only be open at lunchtime Monday to Friday.

The reason is the economic situation.

– We have directives out in the boards to slow down costs as much as possible this year, says the chairman of the welfare board Åsa Bergkvist (S) and continues:

– This is an extra service that we are very happy to have been able to offer, but when you are in a financial situation you need to review what we can continue to offer.

“It’s terrible – scandal”

It is a reason that Birgitta Jansson, chairman of PRO, reacts strongly to.

– You get so upset. It is terrible that the economy should affect the elderly, she says.

– Everyone is lonely and it is precisely this social part that they miss out on. They stay in their rooms or apartments. They have no reason to go out now.

The municipality will also raise the cost of the meal from SEK 67 to SEK 85.

– It would have been enough if they raised the fee for the meal, but now they are removing the meal completely. It’s a scandal, it’s terrible.

“I can take the permobile to the sausage kiosk”

Now the residents either have to go to the store themselves or ask someone to shop for them.

– But how many people can cook themselves? A lonely man who is used to going and getting his food, lunch and dinner, does not stand up and cook when he is old, tired and perhaps also sick.

To Local in tell the residents at Ängsgården that they are disappointed and saddened by the news.

– I get to take the permobile to the sausage stand, says Arne Blidberg, 74 years old.

– Shit, it’s terrible. As I feel now, I can manage to heat my food, but you never know how it will be tomorrow. When you are 89 years old, things can change quickly, says Nelly Tedeholm.
