The mother Désirée Gleißner shares her grief on Facebook after the Christmas market incident on Friday evening.
“André had done nothing to anyone. I don’t understand it…”.
Barely a day after the crime, the 50-year-old doctor was arrested, suspected of five murders and 205 attempted murders.
Warned the man several times
The motive behind the act is not completely clear, but Saudi Arabia is said to have warned German authorities about the man on several occasions, because he spread extremist messages online.
In May, he predicted in a post on social media that he would kill at some point in the year. But until yesterday he was not flagged as a security threat.
– According to reports in the German media, he is said to have started an organization that wants to help other people leave Islam. But a few years ago he must have become more and more extreme in his views, says TV4 Nyhetern’s Jona Källgren, on location in Magdeburg.
“They miss you, as much as we do”
On Saturday afternoon, the 50-year-old doctor was arrested, suspected of five murders and 205 attempted murders. One of those killed is nine-year-old André.
His mother’s words on Facebook have gone viral with over 150,000 shares and reactions.
“Now you are in heaven with grandma and grandpa. They missed you very much. As much as we miss you here. You will always live on in our hearts. I promise you that.”
