The mother got tired of the parasitism – now the sons are being evicted

The two sons, 40 and 42 years old, refused to move from home.
Then the 75-year-old mother had enough – and took the whole thing to court.
Now we are waiting to move out just in time for Christmas.

It is not unusual for adult Italians to continue living with their parents long after they reach adulthood. Studies show that almost 70 percent of everyone between the ages of 18 and 34 still lives at home.

The phenomenon has even been given its own expression, “bamboccioni”, which directly translates to “big babies”.

But not all parents seem to appreciate keeping their children at home.

A 75-year-old woman in the northern Italian city of Pavia grew tired of her sons, both over 40 and working, not contributing to the household – either financially or through simple household chores – and saw no other way out but to take it to court.

The verdict: Move out – before Christmas

Once there, the mother received sympathy from the judge – who quickly decided that the sons should be evicted and that they have until December 18 to move out from the mother.

In the opinion for the judgment, the judge stated that it was no longer justified for the men to be supported by the parents, taking into account the men’s relatively old age.

Although in Italy there has long been a culture of several different generations living under the same roof, the proportion of young adults who remain in their childhood home has increased in recent years. Above all, it is due to tough economic times and difficulties in successfully getting a stable, permanent job.
