The most unusual zombie spin-off is finally available in Germany

Anthology spin-offs based on popular series and franchises are all the rage right now. American Horror Story, Star Wars, the MCU and even The Boys have produced offshoots in recent years that expand their respective narrative worlds with independent (mini) stories. And now it’s the turn of the horror series The Walking Dead.

Tales of the Walking Dead expands the zombie franchise with an anthology series. After Fear the Walking Dead and World Beyond, this is the third spin-off. In the USA, the new The Walking Dead series started last summer. After a long wait, it’s finally in on February 19, 2023 Germany on MagentaTV started.

Tales of the Walking Dead is the most unusual The Walking Dead series yet

Since February 19, everyone is standing six episodes Tales of the Walking Dead ready to stream on MagentaTV. This is about the well most daring experiment of The Walking Dead series universe. As an anthology, each episode tells a standalone story at different points in time during the zombie apocalypse. And with (mostly) previously unknown characters.

Some fans may think that after 12 years and three series, The Walking Dead can hardly tell anything new. Tales of the Walking Dead counters this unusual genres and narrative styles offering refreshingly new perspectives on the all-too-familiar zombie apocalypse.

For example, one tries Time warp episode as a weird comedy, while another is whisked away to a possibly haunted house. The core of The Walking Dead is retained, however. Here, too, human destinies and character stories are in focus.

To the Star-studded cast include Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Jessie T. Usher (The Boys), Daniella Pineda (Cowboy Bebop), Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick), and Parker Posey and Olivia Munn. They all play completely new characters.

In addition, also sweep two well-known The Walking Dead characters back for an episode. Samantha Morton returns as Alpha – before she and her daughter Lydia became Whisperers.

Although The Walking Dead itself ended last November after 11 seasons and 177 episodes, the zombie franchise itself is far from over. The 8th (but also last) season of Fear the Walking Dead starts this May, before the same three new spinoffs usher in a new era for The Walking Dead.

Next year, after a brief sniff in the series finale, we’ll finally be seeing Michonne and Rick Grimes back together in a The Walking Dead series. Their joint spin-off will then be the 7th series of the zombie franchise be.
