The studios didn’t exactly rush to adapt Stephen King’s short story The Body. And when one thing did, there was low $8 million budget and little hope of scoring a hit. But Rob Reiner directed Stand By Me – The Secret of a Summer with so much sensitivity that the film is a sure-fire success and grossed over 52 million.
The film adaptation from 1986 is now available Coming-of-age classic, which also stars Hollywood greats like Kiefer Sutherland and John Cusack. Coming out on March 14th Stand By Me in Steelbook in 4K and Blu-ray *.

Stand By Me in 4K Steelbook
Stand By Me catches that Nostalgia for a last great summer with his friends before the seriousness of life begins. The four friends have long since grown up and are carrying big topics like trauma, grief and fears for the future with themselves that they hide behind bad jokes. Without a lot of words, the friends look behind each other’s facades and give each other support. That’s probably the appeal of the film, which tells so sensitively about friendship, adventure and growing up.
Stand By Me is Stephen King’s favorite film adaptation
While other authors refuse to have their works made into films, Stephen King is extremely generous with his material. Numerous books and short stories have already been published adapted more than 200 times for film and television. Stand By Me lands in our community ranking place 3 of the best Stephen King film adaptations.
The horror author himself also sees it similarly. In an interview with Rolling Stone, King was asked about his Favorite adaptation to which he replied:
Probably Stand By Me. The film adopted the tenor and course of the emotional development in the book. He was moving.
Here is the short story completely atypical, it does without King’s trademark horror and supernatural phenomena. Fans will still recognize their author straight away. As is so often the case, in Stand By Me the protagonist is a writer who lives in his circle Underdog friends experienced a great summer adventure.
