That’s what World War Z with Brad Pitt is about
World War Z throws you into the breathless action with ice cold: As Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) stands in a traffic jam in the middle of downtown Philadelphia with his wife Karen (Mireille Enos) and his kids, he notices an unusual unrest around him. From now on, crowds of people run past the car. It doesn’t take long for the cause of the panic to emerge: People who attack and literally tear other people apart. This only leads to one conclusion: the world is in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.
Through his previous job as a UN investigator, Gerry Lane and his family receive permission from UN Deputy Secretary-General Thierry Umutoni (Fana Mokoena) to find refuge on a military ship. But safety comes at a price: in order to keep his family on board, Gerry has to take on a dangerous mission. He is supposed to track down the origin of the pandemic and find clues to Patient Zero.

7 minute longer version on WOW: World War Z redefines zombies
World War Z is also worth seeing because it does a few things differently than classic zombie films. It’s an action blockbuster and Also suitable for people who don’t otherwise watch zombie horror films. The zombies here are not slow, shuffling undead, but fast, aggressive and very dangerous. Danny Boyle staged it in this way for the first time in 28 Days Later, but on a much smaller scale.
In addition, there is now a certain swarm behavior of the infected. The zombies don’t appear alone, but attack as a horde and even overcome large walls together – almost like ants swarming out of their burrow. Once they have captured their victim, their cruelty and brutality make them seem less like classic zombies and more like predators that tear their prey apart. The film therefore becomes a breathless hunt for Brad Pitt.
There is therefore a very unfair balance of power. In other films with this premise, you often want to shout out to the characters how naive and thoughtless they are acting. In World War Z, however, the protagonist acts with impressive intelligence and survival instinct, embodied by an outstanding Brad Pitt. So it’s neither a knock-out film nor a classic horror film. Instead, World War Z is a gripping survival thriller in which clever strategies and quick adjustments decide between life and death.
So if you’re looking for an exciting zombie film that will thrill you, you’ve definitely come to the right place with World War Z. Action and excitement right up to the last minute, paired with intelligent storytelling, make the film an absolute must for fans of the genre. And if the cinema version wasn’t bloody enough, you’ll now get your money’s worth with the seven-minute longer extended version. To stream on WOW.
