Cult director Guy Ritchie’s career is anything but boring. Breaking through with gangster comedies like Snatch, he shot Aladdin for Disney before returning to his roots with Jason Statham and Operation Fortune. His latest film, war drama Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, starring Marvel star Jake Gyllenhaal, was critically acclaimed. And is now the most popular Amazon Prime film of the week in Germany.

According to a press release, The Covenant is still enthroned from blockbusters like Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo and James Bond 007 – No Time To Die on the 1st This may not least be a consequence of the good reviews.

The Chicago Sun-Times describes The Covenant as a “skilful” and “captivating” movie, with Moments so intense you forget to breathe“. The review score on Rotten Tomatoes is an impressive 83 percent.

The Covenant revolves around US officer Kinley (Gyllenhaal) and his translator Yousfi (Dar Salim), both of whom are fighting in Afghanistan. During a catastrophic mission, Yousfi saves the life of his superior, but has to go to the USA after his departure to hide from vengeful Taliban. A war-ravaged Kinley returns to Afghanistan to pay his debt.
