“The most important feature in the long term” – A small change in Season 5 brings great joy

In Diablo 4, the damage numbers fly across the screen when you chop up monsters. This has bothered some players – but since Season 5, you can change it yourself.

What was disturbing? Strong builds in particular, which cause enormous damage, flood your monitors with damage numbers. If you play with skills that make opponents vulnerable, this will also be displayed again and again. Ultimately, this ensures that you not only see your game characters and monsters on the monitor, but also a lot of numbers and status messages. Some players said: This disrupts the immersion.

Before Season 5, there was only the option to hide the damage numbers or all combat text entirely. Many players reported that they had hidden all numbers in Diablo 4 and would “never turn it back on”. Others wanted to be able to hide only certain numbers and text. Now the requested change came into play.

What has changed? Season 5 not only brought new endgame content and a fresh reputation system for grinding, but also numerous smaller changes. A “quality of life” improvement to the endgame bosses has been pleasing the community since Blizzard’s announcement. In addition, it is now possible to hide all possible combat text.

You can find the setting in the game menu under the “Gameplay” tab. There you can show or hide all combat text – or just individual values such as overwhelming damage or damage against vulnerable targets:

Since Season 5, you can also hide individual combat texts in Diablo 4.

“DPS counter would be even better”

How is this received? The change is discussed in a post on Reddit. In a comment, “-Mx-Life-” writes: “Oh, that’s great. I’ve been […] upset that you can’t tell what an upgrade did because all the damn numbers are flying around and you can’t see if anything has changed.”

For “xorxedino” it is “the most important feature of Season 5 in the long term.” And “Elegant_Spot_3486” writes: “This is a welcome change. I wasn’t even aware of it.” Others also seem to be happy about the change. At the same time, however, they have another wish regarding the damage numbers in Diablo 4.

“Floripa95” writes:

I would LOVE to have an option where you just see the total damage done per second (per enemy). If I’m playing with a build that deals damage quickly, what’s the point of seeing 150 numbers pop up every second? Just condense them into one number per enemy hit, that way we’d have a much better way to compare damage with friends […].

Several users agree with him. One user writes in a comment on Reddit: “Yes, a DPS counter at the top left or right would be much more interesting and less intrusive for me.” “akatash23” also says: “A real DPS number would make it easier to adjust small things (like passive skills) and see the effect.”

Blizzard has brought new content and many changes to Diablo 4 with Season 5. In the new Hell Hordes you can farm mats, loot and gold and almost all uniques have been revised. One change, however, was not planned at all, but will remain in the game. At least the error is to the advantage of the players.
