Alan Moore’s Watchmen comic is one of the best superhero stories ever. No wonder that a film and a series have already emerged from it. But that’s not the end of it. DC has now announced that next year a new Watchmen animated film comes. An important detail has also already been confirmed.
New Watchmen Animated Movie Retains Original’s Hardness
As Collider reports, at San Diego Comic-Con, DC announced a new Watchmen animated film set for a streaming release. There is no information about the content of the project yet. Only one has been confirmed so far R ratingwhich should guarantee the usual Watchmen hardness.
A Watchmen adaptation by director Zack Snyder was released in 2009 and is still one of the best superhero films of all time. In 2019, Lost creator Damon Lindelof released a new Watchmen series as showrunner that doesn’t stick to the comic book template as closely as Snyder’s blockbuster. Lindelof himself describes his version as a remix.
Watchmen designs one alternative world history, in which superheroes have intervened in humanity’s greatest conflicts. The plot revolves around a fictional America in 1985, where the Vietnam War was won with the help of the Watchmen.
After the members of this team have already retired, one of their former comrades is murdered. The masked avenger Rorschach goes in search of the culprit and comes across one conspiracythrough which all superheroes should get their hands on it.
When is the new Watchmen animated movie coming out?
So far, DC has only announced that the new Watchmen animated film 2024 is to be published. An exact date has yet to be announced.
