The most exciting shooter of the year surprisingly celebrates its release and starts Season 1 with new content

The Finals was already able to convince a lot of players in the open beta. Now the PvP shooter is surprisingly celebrating its release.

What has been announced for the release? As Embark Studios announced at the Game Awards 2023, the first-person shooter The Finals is now playable on Steam, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. The Finals not only celebrates its surprise release, but also starts the first season, which brings new content.

What kind of game is this? The Finals is a new PvP shooter produced by Swedish developer Embark Studios. The game puts you in a virtual arena where you fight in teams of three to win a game show.

There are various modes, including the ability to play ranked matches. In each mode, your goal is to collect more money than your opponents. Ranked also has slightly different rules, such as a limited number of respawns and one more team.

Ranked can also be played in tournaments. This means that when the first round is over, the teams with the fewest points are eliminated and have to find a new match.

Unique map destruction with fun gunplay

What makes The Finals so good? The Finals is characterized above all by the incredible destructibility of the map. In general, the destruction of the cards is an important element that also has a tactical use.

Various weapons, skills and gadgets such as sledgehammers, grappling hooks, grenades and mines are available to you, from which you can put together your own loadout based on your class.

If you don’t feel like pure destruction, you can instead sneak up on your opponents with a katana or a dagger and take them out in close combat. Overall, The Finals manages to convince shooter fans with interesting gadgets, fun gunplay and smooth movement.

The Finals receives new content with Season 1

What has changed since the beta? An open beta for The Finals only ran in November, which was very well received by many players, although there were still minor problems. For the full release, the developers have made some changes and added new content to the game.

Among other things, the map Las Vegas is new, which takes you to a version of the gambling metropolis of the same name and is accordingly equipped with slot machines and light boards.

There is also a new gadget: the stealth bomb. This is a kind of grenade for the light class that you can throw at yourself and your team members and whose effect then makes you invisible for a short time.

A third innovation is the so-called companions. These are small animals like a cat or a raven that sit on your shoulder in the game. However, the companions do not serve any special purpose, they are only cosmetic.

There were also some adjustments to the weapon balancing. In a test session that we were able to take part in shortly before the release, for example, the light-class silenced pistol and the medium-class AK felt a little weaker than in the open beta.

E-sport for The Finals is conceivable, but no fixed goal

What about esports for The Finals? MeinMMO editor Dariusz Müller also spoke about a possible shooter e-sport in an interview with the developers of The Finals.

These never had the goal of making The Finals an e-sports game. The main idea was to create a multiplayer game whose core was fun.

Nevertheless, the developers are open to the idea of “The Finals” e-sport and if they find that the players want it, they will see whether and how they can support it.

We’re open to this kind of idea, but that wasn’t the main goal when developing the game. What we wanted more than anything was a really fun, competitive multiplayer game that people could enjoy from casual to competitive environments.

What are The Finals’ future plans? As the developers told us in the interview, the plan is to release new content with each upcoming season.

The possible content that could come includes new weapons, gadgets, skills, maps or even new modes. A classic PvE mode is currently not planned; the team is concentrating on PvP.
