The most disturbing scene only lasts a second

When The Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan brought his sci-fi drama Signs to theaters in the early 2000s, the genre was mostly associated with effects bombast like Independence Day. But the filmmaker chose a completely different, cleverer approach and told his story frightening alien invasion more than emotionally stirring family storywhich also included topics such as the shaking of faith.

Compared to today’s studio blockbusters in the sci-fi genre, Signs seems better than ever. RTL II is broadcasting the still underrated film on Sunday. One scene in particular, which lasts just a second, is an unforgettably eerie climax.

Sci-Fi highlight on TV: That’s what Shyamalan’s Signs is about

Shyamalan’s film revolves around former pastor Graham Hess (Mel Gibson), who lives on a remote farm with his brother (Joaquin Phoenix) and his two children Morgan (Rory Culkin) and Bo (Abigail Breslin). He lost his faith because of his wife’s death. When Graham discovers a huge crop circle in the corn field one day, strange events begin to happen. Reports of alien sightings ultimately the situation becomes more and more acute.

This is the brilliantly disturbing Signs scene

In Shyamalan’s film, the alien invasion is only hinted at for a long time and is unclearly developed. But then comes the moment when the first recorded sighting is broadcast live on television. The family is watching the moment as we are, seeing blurry amateur camera images that for a moment, suddenly a dark green alien show. The way the tension is built and the unconventional alien shock moment is an absolutely outstanding Signs moment.
