Destiny features a massive collection of exos weapons and armor for Wardens to collect throughout their careers. Some of these worked perfectly when released, while others had to be adjusted over and over again. So far, Bungie has been able to tame every Exo except one and we’re not talking about the “queen of bugs” Telesto.
Which Exo is it? It is the Solar Fusion Rifle from Destiny 1 called Infinity. This weapon from the Rasputin Manufactory caused horror and terror in the first year of the loot shooter, although not many Guardians had access to this weapon. At that time, Year-1 Exo-weapons were tied to quests that were only obtained randomly from completing bounties.
So only avid raiders could enjoy this fusion rifle and its unbridled destructiveness. That’s why hardly anyone remembers this exceptional talent.
An exceptional talent of an exo-weapon that cannot be tamed
Why was the Exo so strong? Anyone familiar with fusion rifles knows that they must first charge up before they can fire ammo. Depending on the weapon, this is sometimes faster or slower. However, this was not the case with infinity. Once charged, this fusion rifle fired the entire magazine without delay.
Keepers didn’t have to worry about missed shots from the heavy recoil either, as they were refunded 90% of the time. And if that wasn’t enough, Guardians also had a whopping 8 rounds in the magazine with the Fusion Rifle.
If it doesn’t sound crass enough for you, we’ve dug out a clip from 2014 just in case:
In both PvE and PvP, nobody stood a chance against this weapon until Bungie intervened and tried to tame the beast.
Bungie had to pull the plug once and for all: In Destiny 1’s first year, Bungie understood how powerful the weapon was and tried to put it in its place. Adjustments like reducing the magazine and swapping out certain perks should fix the issue, but it wasn’t enough.
The weapon’s dominance was just too strong. Ultimately, Bungie decided not to make a comeback for this weapon in Destiny 1 in Years 2 and 3. So it slowly became a fleeting memory of Destiny 1 weapon history.
In Destiny 2, infinity made it back after all. However, in a less brutal form, of course. There they are known as “merciless”. Removed the full auto fire mode, but added an increasingly faster rate of fire for non-lethal shots. Missed shots will not be refunded this time either.
But it is interesting that the merciless was able to dominate Calus, the Leviathan raid boss, for a while. But Bungie quickly put the Fusion Rifle down, and it was easier than infinity in Destiny 1.
But enough of the nostalgic tale. Are you there at the time? And if so, did you use it to spread terror in Destiny 1? Feel free to let us know in the comments how you felt about this weapon or if you want to keep this Fusion Rifle where it is.
