The most boring thing about the Herogasm episode is the sex

The most boring thing about the Herogasm episode is the

The cum is washed off, Love Sausage has tucked his giant cock back in his pants, the herogasm in The Boys is over. We’ve been looking forward to this event episode for three years. At that time, showrunner Eric Kripke solemnly announced that the Amazon series infamous scene from the comic template * will actually implement. Last Friday we were able to look at the result on Amazon, and: Well, yes.

I would have expected a little more from a “collective superhero: inner orgasm”. But am I disappointed that I missed the 60-minute supe-porn that the episode was hyped up to be? no way. Because The Boys still delivers one of the best episodes of the entire series, in which the advertised sex escapades are almost annoying.

The Herogasm proves that The Boys can now do anything on Amazon

But how was he then, the Herogasm? The episode is a third over when The Deep finally shows up in front of the mansion of the supe twins TNT Twins who, along with Soldier Boy, share part of the The Seven predecessor Payback formed. However, the Twins don’t just host the Herogasm.

They’re also at the top of Soldier Boy’s kill list, which Homelander wants to get his hands on. That’s why there is later a big showdown between the majority of the boys, the remaining Seven and Soldier Boy. However, what happens in the first moments of the legendary swingers’ party feels like a supe version of the orgy in Eyes Wide Shut, with almost as many masks, by the way. Amazon would not have dared to do that in season 1.

The highlights of the Herogasm:

  • Mother’s Milk gets a cum fountain in the face
  • We catch The Deep red-handed with a new octopus lover
  • The Ant-Man spoof Termite serves up her Journey into the Shrink-I kink again
  • A flying dildo buzzes around like the snitch from Harry Potter
  • Love Sausage greets attendees with his anaconda-like penis right at the door
  • The series recognizes that the non-superhuman sex workers are the real sufferers of the supe orgy
  • This is all interesting, even explicit by The Boys standards, and one would like to pause the image to see which supers are going on in the background right now – and how. But the most interesting scenes happen away from bodily fluids and bare bottoms. You couldn’t really count on that.

The Boys shows more trauma than sex in episode 6 – and does everything right

It would have been easy for the Amazon series to focus on the most blatant sex party possible in the Herogasm episode. Instead, Episode 6 proves that The Boys is now much more than an uncompromising superhero satire.

homelanders, which has been built up into an untouchable mixture of Trump caricature and Thanos since season 1, gets completely new (in) depths away from the Herogasm. First, in a conversation with his reflection in the mirror, he shows how mentally shattered he really is. Then he has to do Herogasm suffer his first real defeat. Soldier Boy, Hughie and Butcher take him down in a spectacular fight that other shows would have saved for the season finale. He can only escape with great difficulty and need – and suddenly has to deal with the realization that he too can bleed.

Quite separate from the Herogasm exist Frenchie and Kimiko, who are being tortured by Butcher’s new (and Frenchie’s old) business partner, Nina. We learn what traumatic experiences made the French member of The Boys into the man he is today. And in an impressively violent and bloody scene, we see that Kimiko may have lost her Supe powers, but is by no means helpless.

But the most impressive development is going through Starlight. She denies her fake relationship with Homelander, opposes supe corporation Vought, and headbanger and politician Victoria Neumann. Starlight has achieved what Homelander desires: she is independent. The Herogasm is Starlight’s Redemption. Her triumph over all the humiliations she has endured throughout the series, whether from Vought, Homelander or The Deep. In contrast, her scenes during the supe orgy that is still taking place seem almost unspectacular.

The Boys is so good that it doesn’t even need any disturbing sex scenes anymore. But in the course of the third season, the opposite development began. The writing team around showrunner Eric Kripke deepened the main characters and sharpened the plot and the always strong satirical elements. Instead of the giant penis, this is what remains after the Herogasm destroyed face of Homelander, the crying Kimiko and the scarred Frenchie, the determined Starlight who has either just brought down evil or signed her own death warrant. And of course Hughie and Butcher, who are now almost indistinguishable from those they actually wanted to fight.

Season 3 started with a penis explosion. In hindsight, this scene seems like a deliberate diversionary maneuver. Because of all things the supposed sex shock festival Herogasm shows how much The Boys’ priorities have shifted. Away from the sex and the gore, towards the differentiated inner view of its characters and a serious drama series. And that’s not only worth more, but also much more exciting than the thousandth disturbing sex scene.
