“Sweden Wrapped” wrote the Moderates in a post on Instagram.
But instead of songs, the party’s top chart was about shootings.
The post was deleted shortly afterwards.
Every year, Spotify releases an annual report on which artists and songs the Swedish people listened to the most.
On Friday evening, the Moderates chose to copy the concept and Spotify’s graphics in a social media post – but instead of music, the party’s “wrapped” was about crime.
Where Spotify listed artists, the Moderates listed the counties where the most shooting deaths took place in Sweden this year.
“The number of fatal shootings in 2023 – 332” and “Sweden wrapped” read the post.
M: Creative post
For the picture, the Moderates wrote that the party was “convinced that it is possible to reverse the crime trend”.
But shortly after publication, the post was deleted.
Martin Borgs, deputy party secretary for the Moderates, states in an email to Aftonbladet that the post was a way for the party to “test a new approach” in social media.
“We are convinced that it is possible to reverse the crime trend, and wanted to show it through a creative post”.
Why did you delete the post?
“The post received a positive response from many, but did not land well with others. Sometimes it happens like that when you test new approaches and then it’s not a big deal to take down a post”, writes Martin Borgs.
