Final Fantasy 14 has unveiled the second new class that will be added to the popular MMORPG this summer as part of the fan festival.
The MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV will receive two new DPS classes with the Dawntrail expansion in summer 2024: a Melee DPS and a Ranged DPS. It has been known since October 2023 that the first new job, the Melee class, will be called Viper. In this class you use two swords in battle, which can also be combined into one long sword.
What kind of new class will this be? Final Fantasy 14’s new class will be called Pictomancer and will make you a kind of magical painter. You use a kind of larger-than-average magic wand as a brush and attack your enemies with magical ranged attacks.
You start in Gridania, so you can start your adventures directly in Dawntrail. You also don’t need any other class as a prerequisite to use it. The starting level is 80.
In combat, however, you don’t just brush paint onto your opponent’s face with the Pictomancer. As the trailer shows, you draw the respective attack that then hits your target. In one scene the opponent is hit by a huge block of ice and in another by a rock.
You can see the trailer for Pictomancer here:
What exactly is the Combat Skills of the Pictomancer? known? FFXIV game director Naoki Yoshida, also known as Yoshi-P, describes the Pictomancer’s combat abilities as follows:
Yoshida also says that the Pictomancer isn’t quite as attack-oriented as the Black Mage, but it’s not just a support class either.
You start in Gridania, so you can start your adventures directly in Dawntrail. You also don’t need any other class as a prerequisite to use it. The starting level is 80.
New class evokes mixed feelings among fans
How is the Pictomancer received by the community? The new class left a mixed first impression on the community of the popular MMORPG. Some players are already looking forward to playing the magical painter. Others are also disappointed with the animations and sounds or believe that the style doesn’t fit the game.
In the summer of 2023, many fans of the MMORPG speculated what the upcoming class could be. Some suspected a class whose weaponry was reminiscent of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” because Yoshida wore a TMNT T-shirt at the fan festival in 2023. In 2014, he teased the Dark Knight class in the same way with a Batman t-shirt.
Instead of the Ninja Turtles, who are named after famous artists, there is now a painter class.
Is it still worth getting into Final Fantasy 14 in 2024?
