Although almost a month has passed since the historically powerful earthquake in Turkey and Syria, animals can be found alive under the rubble.
Last in line is the dog Aleks, who after more than three weeks was found apparently completely unharmed and in good health.
Aleks was pulled out from under a completely destroyed house in Antakya, southern Turkey – and after first being given water, vets checked on him to make sure he was okay.
In Antakya in particular, hundreds of animals, including cats, rabbits and even birds, have been rescued from the breeding masses.
Around 20 miles further north, in Adiyaman, another unlikely sunshine story unfolded when a horse was pulled alive from massive rubble and walked out on its own legs – after 21 days – with no visible major injuries, and was returned after a veterinary check to its owner.
