The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summons Russia’s ambassador to mark the death of Alexei Navalny.

The government has also proposed in the EU to introduce sanctions against Russians who violate human rights.

– The EU must act against the political oppression in Russia, says Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M) in a statement.

The Foreign Ministry has summoned the Russian ambassador to mark the death of opposition politician Alexei Navalny.

In addition, Sweden has today presented a proposal in the EU’s foreign ministers’ meeting. The proposal is about introducing sanctions against individuals in Russia who violate human rights.

– This is particularly urgent in light of the fact that Aleksej Navalny died in Russian captivity on February 16, says Foreign Minister Tobias Billström in the statement.

On Friday, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson spoke about the regime critic’s death. He then placed the responsibility on the Russian regime.

“Russian authorities and President Putin are personally responsible for the fact that Alexei Navalny is no longer alive,” Kristersson wrote on X.
