The ministers’ coffers are ringing – that’s how high Kristersson’s salary will be

This summer, the government’s ministers will get extra cash. As of July 1, the ministers’ fees will be increased by 3.8 percent, following a decision by the Ministers’ Remuneration Board. This means that the remuneration for Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M), which has so far been SEK 184,000 per month, will be increased to SEK 191,000 per month. From July 1, the prime minister will therefore earn SEK 7,000 more per month. Other ministers will also receive an increased fee from SEK 145,000 a month to SEK 150,500 a month – an increase that corresponds to 3.8 percent. However, a cabinet minister, who is also a member of the Riksdag, does not receive remuneration for the assignment in the Riksdag during his term as a minister. Reviewed once a year The Minister’s fees are normally reviewed once a year. In addition to the monthly fee, ministers are also entitled to compensation for increased living expenses if they temporarily work in another location, or in case of dual residence. The compensation for increased living expenses can amount to a maximum of SEK 8,600 per month, and also applies to state secretaries and political experts. When the assignment as a member of the Riksdag is over, you are also offered financial support if you have not yet turned 66. The support aims to create financial security during the transition period that follows when the member leaves the Riksdag. Not covered by health insurance or vacation The ministers, who are always assumed to be in office, are not, however, covered by the usual rules on health insurance, parental insurance or vacation. The premise is that a cabinet can carry out its mission despite leave or illness.
