“Fantastic news! This is an extremely precious and important piece of the puzzle, both for history and our cultural heritage,” says Parisa Liljestrand (M) in a written comment to TT.
The Apple was sister ship to the regal ship Vasa. The wreck was found in a strait in Vaxholm outside Stockholm in December 2021 during investigations carried out by marine archaeologists at the Vrak museum together with the navy.
That it is actually the Apple is only being made public now, after new and more detailed investigations of the wreck. The ship was launched in 1629 but was condemned as early as 1658 and was deliberately sunk the following year at Vaxholm.
