Concerns and questions about legal certainty have grown after the proposal in the Tidö Agreement that permanent residence permits that have already been granted should be withdrawn was presented. About 300,000 people in Sweden who previously had a safe place in Sweden, now cannot count on being allowed to stay.
– I met representatives of large parts of civil society yesterday, and they expressed exactly this and it worries me. People who live in an honorable way, try to learn Swedish, become self-sufficient and do everything they can to enter society, should not feel worried, says Malmer Stenergard to Ekot.
Normally, authority decisions that benefit the individual cannot be withdrawn. However, the government is determined that the majority of people with permanent residence permits should get rid of them, in order to apply for citizenship instead.
– It only applies to asylum-related residence permits. It is not relevant in cases involving labor immigrants and students, says the minister.
