The Minister of Justice responds to criticism about the visitation zones

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

One of the proposals agreed upon by the new government in the Tidö agreement is the introduction of visitation zones. What the proposal means is that special zones will be set up in vulnerable areas where coercive means such as body searches may be used without there being any existing suspicion of crime.

But criticism has been directed at the proposal. And in Efter fem söndag, an anonymous police officer who worked in one of Sweden’s most violent areas for over 10 years is interviewed. The police are critical of the work of their own authority, but also of the initiatives proposed by the new government.

– Visitation zones are one of the stupidest proposals ever made. It will not help one bit and we will create some kind of gated community but in the other direction, say the police.

But Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) defends the proposal.

– I am completely convinced that it is a tool that will be able to be useful, but ultimately it is of course always the local police who decide which tools are to be used, says Strömmer in Efter fem Sunday.
