How does the minister respond to this criticism?
– I am aware of the expectations that several of the proposals should be dealt with urgently and without delay. At the same time, this process requires caution, and the government is careful to take careful note of the documents received when the report is sent.
What will happen now after the referral round?
– The referral period expired on April 15. Work is now underway to take part in and analyze the referral responses. It is an important part of the government’s preparation documents together with the continued dialogue with the minority. I cannot give any information today about efforts going forward.
The Commission stressed in November that a process for a public apology should be started immediately – when will that happen?
– The commission suggested in its report that the government initiate a dialogue with the minority about the conditions and forms for a public apology and that both the form and content of a public apology need to be carefully anchored with the minority. It is important that the process is not rushed, while we are aware that many of those affected by the assimilation policy are older.
– The work of taking part in the consultation responses is ongoing and the Government Office has had initial dialogues with representatives of the minority about the reconciliation process. I cannot give any more detailed information than that about the process.
