The Minister for the Elderly on the substitute shortage: Think outside the box

The Minister for the Elderly Anna Tenje (M) responds to the alarm about a shortage of substitutes in elderly care. Just over 85 percent of Sweden’s municipalities say that they have difficulty finding staff.

Anna Tenje thinks that the municipalities should be out in good time and think outside the box.

– There are some good examples, some that thought outside the box. I have collaborated with a project called “go care” which highlights how fantastic it is to work in healthcare.

– I also saw Vilhelmina municipality recruiting EPA drivers to work in home care. I think that could be a way in rural areas around Sweden to find more summer workers.

85 percent of the country’s municipalities have difficulty finding staff to care for the elderly, according to a survey conducted by TV4 Nyheterna. Of the 171 municipalities that responded, a third said it would lead to understaffing.
