The chairman of Riga Dinamo has not agreed to comment on the situation of his club to the Latvian media. Dinamo has played in KHL since the league was founded.
The future of Riga Dynamo at the Hockey League has become a topic of conversation in Latvia as a result of the crisis in Ukraine.
Minister of Education and Science in Latvia Anita Muizniece demanded on Twitter that the KHL team Riga Dinamo withdraw from the series. According to Muizniece, talk of separating sport from politics must be stopped.
– I would like to emphasize Dynamo in particular. The story of playing in the “Russian Open Championship Series” must end, Muizniece wrote.
On Tuesday, the Jokers ‘Supporters’ South End Association demanded that the club withdraw from KHL due to the crisis in Ukraine. The Jokers club management only commented on Sport by email and appealed to the agreements with the series. The jokers are set to start KHL playoffs next week.
The season for Riga Dynamo is already over, as the club was left out of the playoffs. The Latvian broadcaster Latvijas Radio interviewed the chairman of Dinamo Juris Savickis on tuesday. Savickis refused according to Latvian media (you switch to another service) to comment on the situation of the club and not the demands of the Jokers ’supporters.
Supplier Martins Klavenieks revealed on Twitter that Savickis ended the call immediately after questions. Savickis also chairs the Latvian gas company Itera Latvijas, which sponsors Dinamo and is majority owned by the Russian Areti International Group.
Dinamo has been playing at KHL since the series was founded in 2008. Dinamon and Jokerit in Riga are currently the only KHL clubs in the European Union.
