Sweden’s cyber security center (NCSC) is to be reshaped, function better and become more open. “Sweden’s most secret authority”, FRA, is given responsibility for the work.

– We will continue to be Sweden’s most secret authority when it comes to parts of our operations, says FRA head Björn Lyrvall.

The NCSC, and Sweden’s general work with cyber security, has previously received sharp criticism – including from the National Audit Office.

– What we are doing now is moving forward to build a new cyber security center, says Carl-Oskar Bohlin (M), Minister for Civil Defence, at a press conference.

The government has already announced that FRA will take over responsibility for NCSC. It will formally take place on November 1.

– Would it have been better if Sweden had done this ten years ago? Yes, we try to bend the curves as much as possible, says Bohlin when asked why the work with NCSC is taking so long.

The center has been a political ambition since 2019, but responsibility has long been shared between different authorities.

– This will be a bit of a cultural trip for the authority, Björn Lyrvall answers the question of how “secret” FRA can take over a cyber security center with the ambition to be open.

The search for a director of the new NCSC is to begin “within days”, according to Bohlin.
