The mid-day sale seems to be dropping

This year’s mid-day sale looks to be going significantly worse than in previous years.
Many stores are empty and that the sales are not attracting people, both Swedish Trade and the customers who still sought out.
– People don’t have any money, says Ulf Rohrstock, shopper in Malmö.

This year, Christmas sales are down by half a billion kroner compared to last year, according to Swedish Trade.

Now the mid-day sale also looks to be going in the same direction.

– We do not have exact figures on this yet. But we won’t be surprised if we see that the days between days decline, says Maria Mikkonen, chief economist at Swedish Trade.

E-commerce is going backwards

At a shopping mall in Malmö, it is free from congestion.

– I think it is probably less than last year. Parking is less frequent and easier to find, says shopper Ulf Rohrstock.

Record-breaking interest rates have clearly eroded consumers’ purchasing power. Swedish Trade sees an increasingly pressured situation for its traders.

– E-commerce declines by 15 percent. Consumers hold their wallets tighter, says Maria Mikkonen.
