Ucklumskolan, which is located approximately one mile east of Stenungsund, has existed since the 1950s. Now the school’s students will be bused to the municipality’s central location.
The school has been threatened with closure several times. In 2019, it was decided that the school would remain if the number of students exceeds 40. Now there are 61 students, by the autumn 56. But S and M, who were behind the proposal, believe that there are no financial conditions to run the school.
– You must be able to run a good business. When it comes to 56 students, it is not possible, said Olof Lundberg (S), who is the chairman of the municipal board, from the podium.
Arouses upset feelings
Something that was questioned by several opposition politicians and why they did not wait for the signatures from the Ucklum residents.
– Why don’t you want to wait for a democratic process and the referendum? asked opposition councilor Nedžad Deumic (KD) during the debate.
Outside the municipal hall, parents of children demonstrated at the school and the closure has caused very upset feelings.
