The message: Stops all egg deliveries

Last week the alarm came about a new salmonella infection at Sweden’s largest egg producer CA Cedergren in Fliseryd in Småland. On Monday, it was announced that all distribution of consumer eggs from the farm will be stopped indefinitely, reports SVT Nyheter Småland. It was at the beginning of April, in connection with a routine check, that the suspected salmonella infection was discovered in CA Cedergren’s packing plant. All the eggs were then stopped from reaching consumers, and on Monday the suspicions were thus confirmed. – We are going to clean up the packing house now, then we have to take new samples and see if we can find any more traces, says Maud Cedergren, who runs the farm, to SVT Nyheter Småland. Stops distribution indefinitely After last week’s announcement, the egg producer has decided that the eggs will now be heat treated and used for production industry – which, among other things, uses the eggs to produce egg powder. The heat treatment causes the salmonella bacteria to disappear completely. However, this means that all distribution of eggs to consumers will be stopped indefinitely, but according to the industry organization Swedish Eggs, this will not affect the availability of eggs to any great extent. – It is clear that it affects, but no more than it did before Easter, says Marie Lönneskog Hogstadius, operations manager at Svenska Ägg, to SVT. Will increase the number of samplings Since the end of 2022, CA Cedergren has discovered several cases of salmonella, and several times eggs have therefore been recalled from the stores. The producer will now clean up the packing plant where the salmonella infection was found. They will also increase the number of samplings on the farm, writes SVT Nyheter Småland.
