The mercury can drop to 50 degrees in Sardinia

In the United States, on the other hand, we will see if the heat record in the history of world measurement will be broken on Sunday in California’s Death Valley.

The heat wave in southern Europe will continue and intensify next week, British broadcasting company BBC and news agency Reuters report.

Roasting heat is expected for at least Italy, Greece, the Balkans and Turkey, an Italian meteorologist Giulio Betti tells the BBC. The highest temperature peak occurs especially between Wednesday and Sunday.

Italy’s health ministry has issued a heat warning for 16 major cities, including Rome, Bologna and Florence.

Italian Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci instructs people to stay indoors between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

– Going to the Colosseum in 43 degree heat is not recommended, especially for elderly people, Schillaci tells Il Messaggero.

According to the Italian media, the temperature may rise to 48 degrees in Sardinia next week. This is close to the European record of 48.8 Celsius, which was measured in Sicily in 2021.

In Greece, the temperature has risen to at least 40 degrees in the last few days. The most popular attraction in Athens, the Acropolis, was closed on Friday and Saturday during the hottest times of the day.

At least 4,000 people have been evacuated on La Palma in the Canary Islands due to a wildfire that started on Saturday. At least 4,500 hectares of land have burned.

Elsewhere in Spain, authorities are warning of the risk of wildfires. Sleeping may be difficult at night, as the temperature is not expected to drop below 25 degrees.

The temperature rises to 44 degrees in southern Spain in the Guadalquivir valley near Seville.

The world heat record may be broken in California

In California’s Death Valley, the mercury may even rise on Sunday to 55 degrees Celsius in Furnace Creek. This would be the temperature record in the history of measurement of the entire earth.

The heat record in measurement history is controversial. The official record announced by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is also 56.6 degrees Celsius measured in Furnace Creek in 1913. Several researchers have questioned this, and alternatively, 54.4 degrees measured in Furnace Creek in July 2021 has been presented as the heat record.

Heat warnings also issued in Asia

Temperatures are expected to rise to 38-39 degrees in parts of eastern Japan on Sunday and Monday. The country’s Meteorological Institute warns that record temperatures may be seen in the country.

China has also been warned on Sunday about temperatures that can rise to 40-45 degrees in the Xinjiang province and 39 degrees in the Guangxi region.
