At least 10 people were killed and 19 injured on Sunday in the deadliest knife attack in Canada’s modern history. The deed was carried out in 13 different locations in the Saskatchewan province of Canada, in a small community with indigenous people.
Police believe some of the victims were targeted while others were chosen at random.
One perpetrator dead
The perpetrators are the brothers Damien, 31, and Myles Sanderson, 30. On Monday, the Canadian police announced that Damien Sanderson had been found dead outside, reports Reuters.
– We can confirm that he has visible injuries. These injuries are not believed to be self-inflicted, said Rhonda Blackmore, commander of the Saskatchewan Mounted Police, at a press conference.
Blackmore did not elaborate on what injuries Damien Sanderson received.
“Armed and dangerous”
The brother, Myles Sanderson, is still at large and is believed to be possibly injured. Whether he is involved in Damien’s death, the police do not yet know.
Rhonda Blackmore warns that Myles Sanderson is a danger to the public, even if he is injured.
– Myles has a long criminal record involving crimes against both persons and property. We assess that he is armed and dangerous, she says.
– Do not approach him.
Gone since May
According to CBC News, Myles Sanderson has been wanted by police in Saskatchewan Saskatoon since last spring. In May, he stopped seeing his supervisor after serving time for, among other things, assault, robbery and threats.
Trudeau: Be there for each other
At a press conference on Monday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the knife attacks “heartbreaking and shocking” and that his thoughts go out to those affected.
– Sadly, tragedies like these have become all too common in recent years. We will do as we always do in times of difficulty and anguish, we will be there for each other, be there for our neighbors, lean on each other, help grieve and help heal.
