The estimate of the presumed death toll is so far based on eyewitness accounts only.
There may be about 300 civilians killed in the ruins of a theater that was bombed a week ago in Mariupol, southern Ukraine. Mariupol’s city administration reports the matter, referring to eyewitness observations.
The video above was shot last week after the attack. The ruins are still being cleared.
Information on the victims of the theater attack has varied widely. Last week, hundreds were reportedly trapped in the ruins and soon after, no dead were found.
A large number of civilians had sought refuge in the theater. In addition, the word “children” was written in capital letters in Russian on the front and back. Despite this, the building was bombed by Russian armed forces.
“Rebuilding Mariupol will take years”
The humanitarian situation in besieged Mariupol continues to deteriorate as Russia blocks humanitarian aid to the city, says mayor Vadym Boitshenko According to the BBC.
– Russia (troops) occupy part of the city, but our soldiers still control the city. However, fighting continues unabated, Boitshenko says.
About 100,000 people have been trapped in the city, and large-scale attempts to evacuate them have failed. In recent days, thousands of civilians have managed to leave the city in private cars.
According to Boitshenko, Mariupol has been destroyed and it will take years to rebuild it.
