The man will be sentenced for the murder in Örebro

A 26-year-old man went on a brutal knife attack against a mother and daughter in Örebro.
The motive for the crime: The mentally ill man thought the women were Russian agents.
He seems to be crazy so that’s enough and it’s over, says Leif GW Persson.

It all took place on Saturday evening, February 11, in Baronbackarna in Örebro. A mother in her 50s and a daughter in her 25s were in the residence when an old classmate of the younger woman suddenly appeared.

– He has realized that the mother and daughter are Russian agents, says crime professor Leif GW Persson in Nyhetsmorgon.

The 26-year-old man was armed with a knife and something that looked like a barbecue skewer. He pushed his way into the residence.

– They don’t want to let him into the apartment and he gets in anyway and goes after them with the knife, says GW.

Creepy note

Both women were badly injured and the mother later dies from her injuries. At the scene, the police found bloody notes, which the perpetrator admitted to having left, with eerie messages to say the least:

“They were Russian agents!!! Slava Ukraini!”, it says in large letters on one note.

There are several witnesses to the crime and also a film of the incident. The perpetrator has admitted involvement in the crime but opposes criminal liability. On Tuesday, the trial against him began.

The 26-year-old is believed to suffer from delusions and a serious mental disorder, something that will affect the sentence.

“Of course it’s planned”

– He seems to be crazy so that’s enough and will be over for once. I consider it out of the question that he would be acquitted. Likely and hopefully he will receive closed forensic psychiatric care, says GW and continues:

– It is clear that he has planned it. People like this, who are mentally ill in this way with a strongly pronounced persecution mania, they make their planning based on their conditions.

The criminology professor believes that the perpetrator, in his own way, acted with the best of intentions.

– He wants to help Ukraine, among other things by taking down two Russian agents operating in Sweden, which is completely unrelated to reality.

The trial is ongoing in Örebro district court, during Tuesday and Wednesday. They are expected to arrive shortly.
