Epic Games now offers a number of other games. These include Rocket League and Rocket Racing, a racing mode for Fortnite – where you can buy virtual car skins. But the prices in the shop were so outrageous that players complained loudly and Epic is now reacting.
These are the expensive cosmetics:
These are the reactions: Shortly after the release, there was a lot of anger about the expensive prices in the Rocket Racer shop (via Reddit). The players thought that around 40 euros or dollars was too much for a skin for a single car.
There were comparisons about what else could be done with the money. For example, you can buy the popular Hollow Knight twice and have more of it – even 5 times on offer. There was particularly great criticism for the obvious target group:
Children have no concept of value. If the [den Skin] If they like it and their parents can afford it, they buy it. And considering that Epic caters to younger players and is building on this, someone had to think this made sense.
Another user says: His cousin is 13 and bought V-Bucks for $60 and squandered them within 3 weeks. Others think that for that much money they could simply fill up their car in real life.
Epic responds to complaints, lowers price
Epic now explains via the official X channel that prices will be reduced. Bundles for 4,000 V-Bucks now cost 2,500 V-Bucks, those for 2,500 will be reduced to 1,500.
This corresponds to bundles worth €23 or €20 – in the best case scenario.
There is also a partial refund. Anyone who bought bundles for the more expensive price will receive the difference in V-Bucks.
The discussion about prices in the shop heated up quite quickly, especially because it has been going on in gaming in general for some time. There was recently a similar problem with Diablo 4. There is a shop in the full-price game, which upset many fans.
However, Epic demanded significantly more here than was the case with Blizzard. In the Diablo 4 shop, the most expensive packages weighed as much as the discounted version of the cars in Rocket Racer. To my shame, I have to admit that I bought at least one of these shop skins for €25.
