The makers of Elden Ring are working on several new games, but there is no sequel

Elden Ring and the DLC Shadow of the Erdtree are among the most popular games ever. Now the developers at FromSoftware have spoken about their future projects.

How is From Software doing right now? The makers of Elden Ring are currently enjoying the laurels of their successful DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, which was the first game expansion ever to be nominated at the Game Awards. The DLC was extremely well received by the trade press and secured an average rating of 94 out of 100 on Metacritic.

While everyone is talking about the DLC, the developers are of course using the time to work on other games. A sequel for Elden Ring is currently not in focus.

First of all, no Elden Ring 2

What’s the future for the Elden Ring brand? Although the Elden Ring brand is probably stronger than ever, there will initially be no successor to the hyped open-world adventure.

Developer legend Hidetaka Miyazaki told IGN Japan at the PlayStation Partner Awards: “We don’t really consider developments like Elden Ring 2.” There will probably not be a sequel in the form of a successor to the title that was named the best game of 2022 by the Game Awards for the time being.

Instead, the developers are working on several other games. These should also differ in the genre from Elden Ring. Studio director Miyazaki himself is only leading some of the projects, while others are being overseen by other experienced lead designers, similar to what happened most recently with Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon.

What happens to Elden Ring’s brand? Although there will be no Elden Ring 2 for the time being, new games for the IP are conceivable. Hidetaka Miyazaki said: “I want to make it clear that we do not rule out the possibility of developing the ‘Elden Ring’ brand in some form in the future.”

Even if a successor and further DLC are probably ruled out for the time being, the continuation of the brand in a film or series could certainly be possible. The author behind the lore of the Elden Ring universe really likes the idea: George RR Martin talks about an “Elden Ring” film in the most suspicious way
