The magician’s assistant became the dark horse of the British prime ministerial race – Penny Mordaunt rose from the back row to join the front-runners

The magicians assistant became the dark horse of the British

In Britain, the Conservative Party will soon decide on its new leader, who will become the British Prime Minister. The race has been won before by a black horse unknown to the general public, reminds ‘s London editor Pasi Möhänen.

The 49-year-old Mordaunt, who has held numerous back-row ministerial roles, is on a strong rise, because for him, the stars are in the right position.

Because of the war in Ukraine military credibility matters in politics and ex-navy reservist Mordaunt has been blessed with such since birth. His father was a paratrooper in the British Army and Mordaunt’s first name is named after the naval cruiser HMS Penelope.

Recognizability among the entire British people is not of decisive importance right now, because the choice of the new chairman is made by the members of the Conservative Party.

Among them, Mordaunt, who is able to perform and because of his army background, is unfathomably patriotic, is popular.

In the Conservative Party, it may also be speculated that due to his background, Mordaunt would have better opportunities than his rival to appeal to the famous deep ranks of the people. Like many privately educated conservative politicians, he is not born with a golden spoon in his mouth.

He became Mordaunt at a young age his brother’s primary carer after their mother’s death. During his student days, he supported himself by doing odd jobs, for example at the factory of the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical company.

However, the most interesting job on the resume is arguably the role as performance assistant to the head of the British Association of Magicians.

When Mordaunt says he supports “a small state, low taxes and self-responsibility”, it also seems that he knows what he’s talking about and has elevated himself in his career. This fits the message at the heart of British conservatism.

Mordaunt’s shares on the right wing of the Conservative Party are also helped by the fact that he is a staunch Brexiteer, i.e. a supporter of leaving the EU. Even to the extent that he collapsed before the 2016 Brexit referendum to claim (you switch to another service)that Britain cannot prevent Turkey from becoming a member of the Union – causing the then Prime Minister to David Cameron’s reprimand.

To the top three of the British prime minister race also include the Minister of Foreign Affairs Liz Truss and former Minister of Finance Rishi Sunak. But in the eyes of the conservatives and the people, they have also had time to grow old.

But the race for the leadership of the Conservative Party is just beginning. Even Penny Mordaunt has time to fumble and stumble, for example when the arguments start. The party is due to elect a new leader, who will become the UK’s prime minister, by September 5.
