The Lord of the Rings star is still dissatisfied with

Actor Hugo Weaving took on the role of the elf Elrond five times between The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. However, 24 years after his first Rivendell appearance in Middle-earth, the Australian actor summarizes his famous role rather soberly.

For Lord of the Rings star Hugo Weaving, Elf Elrond was a thankless role

The now 64-year-old actor spoke to the Guardian looking back on his career. While Weaving embodied many villains in Hollywood (Matrix, Captain America), his Lord of the Rings elf Elrond also made him world famous. But behind the scenes, the star was anything but happy with the powerful Middle-earth leader:

To be honest, he was not the most satisfying characterwhich I played. Elrond was a clotheshorse and they gave me all the introduction.

Hugo Weaving as Elrond in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

What Hugo Weaving probably wants to express with the clothes rack comparison is that the Lord of Rivendell was always elegantly dressed, but… Not much to do within the plot had. In fact, in both the Lord of the Rings films and the Hobbit trilogy, his primary role is to provide the heroes with refuge, provide them with the necessary information and then send them on their way.

As impressively as he does it with elvish gravitas, there were many exciting parts within the Lord of the Rings cast. That’s probably why Hugo Weaving eventually had enough and gave a clear no to his renewed involvement in Amazon’s new Lord of the Rings series.
