“‘Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ attracted more than 25 million viewers globally in its first day, breaking all previous records and marking the biggest premiere in Prime Video’s history,” the company said in a statement.
So far, the first two episodes of the series have aired. The series is set in Tolkien’s “Second Age”, thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books, which have already been made into films.
Amazon had to pay $250 million for the rights to the series. The first season alone has cost about $465 million in filming costs. A total of five seasons are planned.
