The Paavo Nurmi Games held on Tuesday night saw the toughest competition day of the Finnish athletics season so far. The spear thrower was responsible for the toughest Finnish result internationally Oliver Helanderwho snatched the winning result in the second round and a handsome record of 89.83.

Helander took fourth place in Finland’s statistics. His previous record was 88.02 four years ago.

– It feels really good, Helander summed up his mood and stated that almost everything was in place on the record.

– It was already felt in the warm-up that today is a good day. Fortunately, I also succeeded in the race, Helander said.

The last time a Finn threw a spear was almost 15 years ago. Currently working as Helander’s coach Tero Pitkämäki threw World Cup gold in Osaka on September 2, 2007 with a final round of 90.33.

The potential of the 25-year-old Helander has been known for a long time, but injuries to the elbow and shoulders have been a man’s nuisance. Sports Expert Jaakko Ojaniemi reminded that in the championships with a score of 89.83 will fight for victory.

– Quite often that result wins gold. You can think about how hard the result is. It was time to push, at least for myself, Ojaniemi said.

Helander also crossed the 80-meter limit with his 81.67 throw.

– It went bad. Saw there were effects well. Oliver seems to be fine, the expert summed up.

Due to injuries from Helander, the races have been limited so far throughout this entire spear career. Because of this, raising the base level for value races I think has also been challenging. Helander has never made it to the adult finals final.

– He has very few races anyway. He needs equality and certainty, which are useful in value competitions, Ojaniemi estimates.

Next time, Helander will compete in Kuortane on Saturday.

– If there are more than 85 in the next race, I would at least be happy myself. I don’t know if Oliver anymore, Ojaniemi smiled.

Krista Tervo becoming the medal favorite at the European Championships

The second Finnish result of the international class was already seen in the women’s sledge at the beginning of the competition. In excellent condition Krista Tervo hit 74.34 in the final round and only six cents away from its Finnish record.

Tervo, who broke the 70-meter limit four times, defeated, among other things, the Polish Olympic trio Malwina Kopronin. A 24-year-old Finn is becoming an authentic medalist at the Munich European Championships.

For Tervo, the qualifiers have been challenging since the youth series. Ojaniemi hopes that the shooter’s performance level will remain strong in the next competitions as well.

– Tervo’s result is at the level of a medal. Especially with regard to the qualifiers, I would like Krista to get a lot better throws in the first rounds.

Raitanen assured

The list of Finnish successes was long. In the men’s 3,000-meter hurdles Topi Raitanen showed an uptrend by tapping their best of the season at 8.19.34.

In the women’s 400-meter fences Viivi Lehikoinen was left with only 17 hundredths of the 54.96 record he had run in Hengelo over the weekend.

Women’s 800m ex-hurdles Eveliina Määttänen continued its successful species change. The 26-year-old runner improved to a record 2.06 seconds at 2.01.52. With these excerpts, Määttänen is running for the European Championships.

In jumping sports, the most positive was the recovery from a minor injury Ella Junnilan presentation. Junnila, who is aiming for the World Cup, jumped to his best of the season 192.

Women’s pole vault Wilma Murto continued his steady grips, crossing 450 in the second race in a row.

Ojaniemi was especially pleased with Raitanen’s vibe. The Finnish runner is one of Finland’s toughest medalists at the European Championships.

Raitanen’s record two years ago in the Monaco Diamond League ran 8.16.57.

– The distribution of speed in Raitanen was challenging. However, he got to fight in the end. I thought Topi’s running was promising.

Of the foreign athletes in high spirits, a record span of 89.30 was thrown by the Indian Neeraj Chopra as well as a puck best of the season 70.62 tossed Sweden Daniel Ståhl.

Top results were also among Birtettians Max Burginin The 800-meter record is 1.43.52, which is the number one time in world statistics this season.
