The thing that was discussed for a long time in the F1 world got its confirmation. For the 2026 season, Audi, which is associated with formula one, has chosen the Swiss Sauber as its partner.

Today, the Sauber team, which goes by the name of Alfa Romeo, is teaming up with Audi. Audi is a car brand of the German Volkswagen Group.

– The next important milestone on the road to the Formula One World Series has been completed: Audi has chosen Sauber as its strategic partner and is planning to acquire a stake in the Sauber Group. The traditional Swiss team will compete as Audi’s factory team from 2026 onwards, using a power unit developed by Audi, Audi announced (you will switch to another service).

It was already known that Audi will enter the F1 series, but the more precise details were in the dark. Although there had been a lot of rumors about the joint night between Audi and Sauber. For example, Alfa Romeo was considered a sign of it had already informed (you will switch to another service) to stop sponsoring Sauber until the 2023 season.

Peter Sauber’s, 79, founded the Sauber team has been involved in F1 since 1993. In the first F1 season, its drivers were Jyrki Järvilehto and Austrian Karl Wendlinger. Finns have also driven in the team Mika Salo, Kimi Raikkonen and at the moment Valtteri Bottas.

Since 2010, the team has used Ferrari engines. That cooperation will continue until the end of 2025.

Since the beginning of the 2018 season, Sauber’s team has been known as Alfa Romeo after Sauber signed a partnership agreement with the Italian company.

– With around 30 years of racing experience, Sauber is one of the most famous and traditional Formula 1 teams. Although the power unit is created at Audi’s competence center in Neuburg an der Donau (Germany), Sauber develops the car at its own site in Hinwil (Switzerland). Sauber is also responsible for planning and implementing competition activities.

F1 reporter Lawrence Barretto believed (you switch to another service), that Sauber will now get a partner that will allow it to compete financially with all the other teams. In addition, Sauber gets a supplier of power units, which focuses fully only on that team.

According to Audi’s press release, the design of the 2026 power unit is already in full swing and more than 120 people are working on the project.

The goal of the F1 series is to be carbon neutral by 2030. In 2026, several rule changes will come into force, which, according to Audi, were an important part of joining the F1 series.

– The power units will become more efficient than they are today, as the share of electric power will increase significantly. The highly efficient 1.6-liter turbo engines are powered by durable synthetic fuel that is carbon neutral (according to EU standards).
