The operations manager at the concerned health center writes in an email to the newspaper that what has happened is very serious and a big departure from their routines.
After the incident, the care center took measures and introduced new routines, and reported itself to the Care and Care Inspectorate (Ivo).
In the Ivo report, it is stated, among other things, that the error has meant “psychological suffering for the patient”.
However, something like this should never have happened before, says the operations manager for GP.
But it is not entirely unusual for people to be wrongly declared dead. This year alone, the Tax Agency has registered 40 wrongful deaths in Sweden. In 33 of the cases, it is a doctor who has committed the mistake. Other cases concern errors at the Tax Agency and fraud, according to the newspaper.
It is fairly quick for the National Board of Health and Welfare to invalidate a death certificate, but for an affected individual it can take time and be all the more difficult to reactivate, for example, bank ID and identification documents.
